Who is… DJ Dustbuster?

“K.O. Graf T”

As a talented artist, DJ and all round good guy (other than being a Pats/Habs fan), Michah Dowbak has been making a name for himself under and above ground in TO for a few years now. Touring with his longtime friends, and new LiveNation act Burnz N Hell as the DJ for their shows, he has also produced many of their tracks. A long time member of extended King Oak family, we knew Michah aka DJ Dustbuster was multi-talented dude and seeing that we were taking King Oak in a new direction, showcasing other artists, he was a natural fit… “like a glove.”

Graffiti is a huge part of the Toronto arts scene and urban art globally. We are huge fans and it just so happens the talented Dustbuster is a dope writer. Mayor Ford might want to remove all of the Graffiti in our city, but F** him. Graffiti will always live, especially when we have artists like Michah “Dustbuster” Dowbak. This is Double X’s breakout video, the song is called “My Life” and the video was directed by Matt Beecraft. I love the way the video is shot/directed, the visuals are stunning and really compliment the song by not distracting from the honest lyrics. Big up to Double X for putting out real hip-hop and reppin’ T.O. the right way. We love the work! Keep it coming man!

Ray Black Just Hit Your speakers

It has been too long since we have heard GTA-raised and Vancouver-transplant Ray Black on a solo track. As of Saturday, July 24 2010 that long wait was finally put to an end as he released his latest mixtape to the public, “Fresh Air”.

Made available for free download via rayblack.bandcamp.com , it includes 16-tracks of unfiltered, unapologetic Hip Hop. The tracks not only show his range and ability to create complete songs, but they boast improved wordplay and an uncanny ability to provoke thoughts in his listeners.

King Oak’s Lookbook Vol. 1

This was a ton of fun to not only shoot, but put together in the end. It was definitely a lot of hard work and we didn’t see eye to eye on everything the whole way but we came up with something the three of us, and the others involved in the lookbook are very proud of.

The idea was to capture a quick day around the city for King Oak. Making stops on Queen, King, Yonge & Dundas, riding the subway or getting a quick bite on the go are all places we frequent or things we do often. It made perfect sense to shoot them. It was shot with those who aren’t quite as familiar with the city in mind and those who live in it at heart. Intentionally showing aspects of how Toronto is just like any other city and at the same time incorporating shots showing how no other city is quite like it.

Betty Shyne will be one of the first acts to proudly wear our unique t shirts when they open for IllScarlett tonight. We are just as proud to have them as early King Oak supporters.
Hailing from the west-side of the GTA (Burlington), these four gentlemen are taking it back to the glory days of rock, one venue at a time.

When naming influences and you hear bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Disturbed you can get an idea of exactly what to expect from these four gentlemen from Burlington. Jon, Ben, Duncan and Dylan are dedicated to bringing it back to the “glory days” with bold, poetic lyrics, driving rhythms and cutting melodies. Each member is truly dedicated to their instrument, and it is obvious when they combine their talents. We are excited to be going to see them open up for another great Canadian talent, and can’t wait to see the King Oak logo worn proudly on a stage.
